What did we ever do before the Internet? I can’t tell you how many times this week I’ve Googled something… and don’t get me started on social media! As a parent, I also love that there is a wealth of sharing and knowledge in the cloud available for education. There are many, many educational blogs out there that are very informative and full of great ideas. At Red Apple Reading we appreciate a good educational blog, and believe you’ll want to mark the following ten blogs as favorites and visit them on a regular basis.

  1. Playdough to Plato – This fun blog has several great ideas for educators and parents who enjoy teaching their kiddos through hands-on activities. Their team of contributing writers is made up of creative moms (some of whom are former teachers) who love to make learning fun!
  2. What Do We Do All Day? – If you’re a stay at home mom, you have likely been asked, “What do you do all day?”.  The creator of this blog gladly shares what she does with her children all day – and it’s really exciting! Moms (whether working outside the home or in the home) will love this blogger’s creative ideas that are both fun and educational. Be sure to check out her list of indoor activities for kids.
  3. Teach Mama – Reading specialist and former teacher, Amy Mascott, blogs about practical ways parents can incorporate teaching into their kid’s lives. This blog is chock-full of creative, educational ideas for parents with babies through elementary aged kids.
  4. Scholastic – The Scholastic blog is always a go-to for helpful and insightful articles. Thanks to a team of top-notch writing contributors, parents and teachers will find a plethora of information and ideas on all things reading and writing!
  5. Edutopia – Edutopia founder, George Lucas, is passionate about creating innovative classrooms that make learning exciting and engaging for students. Edutopia’s blogs reflect this passion and deliver compelling articles that motivate parents and educators. Blog topics include project based learning, student engagement, technology integration, and more! Check out these thought-provoking posts today!
  6. No Time for Flashcards – This blog is a great resource for parents and teachers of preschoolers and young elementary students. Allison McDonald (founder and editor) enjoys helping adults make learning fun for children. Parents will find creative activities, crafts, and books suggestions for their kiddos!
  7. Pragmatic Mom – Mia Wenjen , creator of this site, describes Pragmatic Mom as, “A mashup covering parenting, children’s literature and education”. Her blogs cover topics ranging from helping your kiddo learn his multiplication facts to Newberry winning book lists. Moms and Dads who want to ensure their children are thriving academically will appreciate this site!
  8. Growing Book by Book –If you wish to nurture your young reader, this blog is for you! Jodi, creator of Growing Book by Book, is an educator and reading specialist. Parents and educators will love the reading and writing activities and book lists. Additionally, ideas for monthly family book club dinners are offered along with menus and discussion topics!
  9. NurtureStore – This blog is a wonderful resource for parents who are looking for engaging educational activities for their child. Blog posts cover everything from play dough recipes to fun math activities. NurtureStore also offers a weekly play planner with play ideas for every day of the year!
  10. Kindergarten Smiles – Teachers will love this blog written by a creative kindergarten teacher of seven years. Early childhood educators and homeschoolers will find fantastic ideas for their unit studies along with craft ideas and great giveaways.
